Oct 29 (Reuters) – Southern California Edison Co (SCE) equipment was found to be the cause of last year’s Woolsey fire according to a redacted investigation report from the Ventura County Fire Department, its owner Edison International said on Tuesday.
“Absent additional evidence, SCE believes it is likely that its equipment was associated with the ignition of the Woolsey fire,” Edison’s chief executive officer, Pedro Pizarro, said on a post-earnings conference call.
Final determination of legal causation and liability would only be made during a lengthy and complex litigation, he added.
Los Angeles County sued SCE in April, alleging that the company’s damaged electrical equipment may have sparked the Woolsey fire that burnt about 97,000 acres near the Malibu coast last year.
Shares of Edison International fell 3.6% to $63.05 in extended trading. (Reporting by Manojna Maddipatla in Bengaluru; Editing by Sriraj Kalluvila)
